Do Computers Need Tune Ups?

Just like your car needs to be serviced from time to time, your PC can accumulate “junk” in its system and slow down, sometimes significantly.  What can you do about it?

Here are a couple of things that you can do yourself that may speed up your PC.

Run a Defrag

A Defrag is a program that comes with Windows that organizes data on your hard drive so that it can be accessed faster.  Just go to Start –> Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk defragmenter.

The program may take several hours to run, depending on how fragmented your disk is.  So be prepared to let your computer sit and let the program run.

Uninstall Unused Programs

If there are programs on your computer that you do not use anymore, you should uninstall them so they free up disk space.  They may also be running in the background when you start your computer and be using computer resources.

If you have any doubt as to if you are still using a program or not, just leave it in.  It is better to be safe than sorry.

Still Slow?

If your computer is still running slow, bring it down to our office and we can check it out.  Sometimes, the only solution is to do a complete reload of your computer in order to get it back to peak performance.

Our knowledgeable technicians are always available to help run a diagnostic and give you some options.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
